The White Stripes-2006 oil on canvas, is a portrait of the Detroit based garage punk band known for their red, white, and black color scheme. I like the fact that the band consists of two people and their recordings are made with vintage sound equipment.

The Cheaters-2006 oil on acrylic with electrical wire, is a painting which focuses on the tale of two online cheaters and the emotional distance and isolation felt by one of their spouses. The spouse watches helplessly as the two cheaters connect and carry on their emotional affair.

Null and Void

Null and Void-2006 oil on acrylic, is a recently completed floor painting. One of the panels is textured with horizontal lines suggesting a scanned document, such as a contract. The other panel looks as if everything has been erased and wiped off, suggesting the destruction of the contract. This piece represents the flimsy nature of human comfort with contractual obligation, which is broken everyday in the form of divorce, business relationships, and property ownership.

Painting Critique

This is an example of one of my recent paintings titled Modem Mire. My work has slowly evolved into installation art, which extends beyond the painted surface and occupies a given space. The piece is oil on acrylic with modem wire. I want the viewer to get a feeling of disconnection, compression, and touch. What do you think of my painting. And please, be brutally honest.

The Supreme Art Form

What is the supreme art form? Is it painting, sculpture, photography, film, drawing or digital? For centuries there has been the painting or sculpture debate, which is now outdated due to the fact that there are so many new and hybrid art forms taking shape on a daily basis. Technology has manipulated even the most traditional of mediums, such as paint, which has sparked the debate of is a digital painting a true painting. I believe painting is the most supreme art form. I say this because I believe painting is the most timeless, flexible, adaptive and challenging of all mediums. A painting can become whatever it wants to be and its appeal will forever hold the viewers attention and imagination. What do you think is the most supreme art form and why? The Beutler Blog

Michael Mann - Directing Genius

Michael Mann is my favorite director. In my opinion, his combination of brutal reality paired with artistic nuance makes for a powerful experience. I really became aware of Mann in 2000 when I saw his film THE INSIDER with Russell Crowe and Al Pacino. I was blown away by some of the camera angles and hues of the film. I later realized that he directed THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, which is a masterpiece of cinematogrophy. He also directed a film which I believe will continue to get better as time goes by and the only film to ever have Pacino and Da Niro share a scene together: HEAT. His recent films are COLLATERAL with Tom Cruise and Jaimee Foxx and MIAMI VICE with Colin Farrell and Jaimee Foxx. If you are not familiar with Michael Mann I suggest you rent some of these movies tonight! Who is your favorite director and why?
